WHAT IS IT? THE LOBOTOMITE IS ASKING ME THINGS, O, AND I AM TRYING TO IGNORE THEM. MY PROCESSORS CAN'T IGNORE YOU BOTH AT THE SAME TIME.

Notes

Despite his hostility against Dr. Mobius, he is willing to consider him as a partner and work for him, if the Courier pretends to be Mobius in the Old World Blues quest.

Quotes

Appearances

Doctor Klein appears only in the Fallout: New Vegas DLC Old World Blues.

Behind the Scenes

  • The three perks that he can give the Courier (Heartless, Brainless, and Spineless) are references to The Wizard of Oz.
  • Chris Avellone stated that according to Brian Menze, the Think Tank members are depicted (left to right) as Dala, O, Borous, Klein, 8, and Mobius on the Old World Blues Intro slide, with Mobius' appearance designed after Dr. Morbius from Forbidden Planet.[Dev 1]
  • Avellone would also state that Doctor Klein's role was the "stuffy Dean of a college" for the Think Tank who is the only threat amongst the members since he fairly sane and able to act with some level of authority.. He would also mention that Seth McCaughey animated the Think Tanks' chassis.[Dev 2]

Developer Statements
  1. Jayalay: "@chrisavellone You know the picture of the pre-lobotomy Think Tank guys? Which one is which? Guessing Klein is old, Mobius bespectacled?"
Chris Avellone: "@Jayalay According to Mr. Menze, the artist: Dala, O, Borous, Klein, 8, Mobius (he purposely looks like Dr. Morbius from Forbidden Planet)."

  2. "Klein served the role of the "stuffy Dean of a college." He's the head lab manager, who is the voice of authority and the threat - (he's one of the more sane members and ones able to act with some level of authority). If he wasn't there, I don't think the Think Tank would have much of a sense of menace, and that's Klein's story role - to be a big, stuffy, and potentially dangerous jerk. That was my sole goal with him - considering how bat**** crazy the others are, I needed someone with a slightly level head.
...Seth McCaughey, one of our animators on the DLC, did all the ED-E's animations for DLC4, just like he did with the Think Tank chassis, and that did more to create emotion than anything I can write - especially the animations when Borous in DLC3 breaks down at his own memories...
