The X-7b "Boom Town" Target Zone is a location in the east of the Big MT in the Fallout: New Vegas DLC Old World Blues.
Layout
Boom Town is a mock settlement set up for the express purpose of testing the performance of Saturnite artillery shells. It is paired with the X-7a "Left Field" Artillery Launch facility. The entire area is irradiated as a side effect of weapons testing, with craters full of green radioactive material.
Loot
- Nuka-Cola Quartz and Nuka-Cola Victory - In the house to the northeast of the area. A Frag Grenade and Mine Box can be found on the roof of this building as well.
- Atomic-Valence Tri-Radii-Oscillator and the Guns skill book recipe - Can be found inside a footlocker in a crater north of the western-most house after firing the fixed gun located at the X-7a "Left Field" Artillery Launch.
- A strange cask (wooden barrel) can be found on top of a hill outside the fence, just northwest of the footlocker. Inside and on top of the cask are four bottles of Battle Brew. The cask can be moved and items can be stored within it.
- Under a Metal Plank 1 by a house in the southwestern corner of the zone, two Mine Boxes can be found: one with Plasma Mines in it and the other filled with Pulse Mines.
- Two Grenade Boxes are found by a destroyed car at the ruined southern section of the stone wall. The Pulse Grenade Box is found under a tire, and the Plasma Grenade Box can be found a bit more south of the pulse grenade one.
Notes
When fast traveling to "Boom Town," arriving will reveal a bombed-out building with an Old World Flag painted in red on the wall, left by Ulysses.
Appearances
The X-7b "Boom Town" Target Zone appears only in the Fallout: New Vegas DLC Old World Blues.
Behind the Scenes
In the real world, a site nicknamed "Survival Town" was used to test the Apple-2 nuclear bomb at the Nevada Test Site on May 5, 1955. An assortment of buildings including residential houses were populated with mannequins and stocked with different types of canned and packaged foods to study the weapon's impact upon the structures and items.
