Automaton is a challenge in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Old World Blues.
Challenge requirements
The Courier character must build a robot bent on destruction in one of the Big MT's research centers.
Effects
Grants 100 XP upon completion.
Walkthrough
With the holotape in hand, inside the X-8 Research Center, take a left after you enter. Proceed in this direction until you reach a room with a Robco console The player will need to "clear the splicing area" first if other creations have been made prior. Interact with the console, and choose to splice a robot and an unusual specimen. The resulting creation will be a hostile Robobrain. The player does not need to engage the hostile enemy, it will self-destruct within a short time.
Notes
- The holotape required for this splicing experiment can be found on top of the kennel cage in the X-8 kennel that has no door. The player can access the holotape either by jumping on the railing and using the railing closest to the cage with the door open to get on top of that cage, then work your way up and over to the cage without the door. Another alternative is to exit the X-8 testing facility from the observation room with a workbench, once the player has the necessary key.
