About
Mods modify elements in the game, hence the name "mod" as an abbreviation of "modification", with most of them being found on Nexus Mods and installable with the tool Mod Organizer 2.
Mods are categorized by the following: resources for other modders to create mods, bug fixes not implemented by the original, sound or texture replacements, and behavioral changes.
When loading mods, the game loads the original files first then the mod files. If any conflict happens between two or more mods implementing the same change, then the most recently loaded file has priority over the other files. Mod Organizer 2 marks mods that have been overwritten by the selected mod in green, and mods that are overwriting the selected mod in red, meaning the mod with the highest load priority will overwrite any conflict it has with other mods.
Do not install or uninstall mods in the middle of a playthrough. Doing so might lead to problems like invisible elements or loss of equipment, or it might have larger impacts like crashing the game or preventing quests from continuing. Mods will use an extension file .esm or .esp to load custom objects. The original game has a load limit of 128 files, with the FNV Mod Limit Fix increasing that limit to 255.
