As Dharma said, 'Caution is life in troubled times.' Your origin is not the issue. Your intent is.

Aradesh is the leader of Shady Sands in Fallout.

Background

Aradesh is the leader of Shady Sands and the father of Tandi.[1][2] The town was founded by one of his ancestors.[3] He distrusts all outsiders, but his trust can be gained over time.[Pub 1] In 2161, the Vault Dweller visited the town and earned the trust of both Aradesh and Tandi.[Pub 2] They later saved his daughter from the Khans, keeping Raiders clear of the settlement and allowing Shady Sands to "get [themselves] set up."[4]

In 2186, Aradesh proposed the idea of a New California Republic,[5] changing Shady Sands' name to the former and forming a trial council government to draft a constitution.[Pub 3] Four settlements joined the council and in 2189, the New California Republic was officially voted into existence,[Pub 3] with Aradesh serving as the republic's first president.[5]

In 2196, his daughter, Tandi, took over as the republic's president following Aradesh's death,[6] where she served as president for 52 years.[7][Pub 4] Fort Aradesh bears his name before it became Fort Abandon[8] and his face can be seen on the front of the $5 NCR bill.[9]

Tell Me About

Query Response
Aradesh "I am he. I lead this humble town of Shady Sands."
Claw "Yes, yes, yes. It is a rumor of a monster created during the War."
Dharma "Dharma was a great, religious man. You would do well to listen closely to his sayings."
Garl "He leads the Khans. He is one of the most dangerous men that has ever set eyes on Shady Sands. He leads the raider clans with a heavy fist." (In Shady Sands)
Junktown "Junktown lies south of here. Their merchants occasionally come to trade, but not often."
Khans "Umm, yes, yes. The Khans are nastier then the Vipers, let me tell you. These barbarians attack from the southeast."
Lair "No one knows for certain, but the packs seem to be coming from the northeast."
Raiders "Ummm, um, um. Very bad. There are two bands of raiders that we know of. They call themselves the Vipers and the Khans."
Razlo "Hmm, yes, yes. Razlo is our doctor. If it ails you, he can heal it. I would wager he is just a little north of here at this moment."
Scorpion, Scorpions "Mean creatures, they are. Be careful of their tail. Their poison can be lethal if not looked after."
Seth "A fine young man, Seth. Captain of our guards. He is likely to be at the Guard House."
Spear "The Vipers and Khans both use spears. We know this from their attacks."
Station, Tower "You will find it at the front of town. Seth will likely be there."
Tandi "She is my daughter. It is she that makes this hard life worth living."
Vipers "Be very careful with such as these. Raiders who are fanatically religious can be quite dangerous. No one here knows of their base."
Anything else I don't know.
I can't really say I have heard of that.
Hm, no. No, I have not heard of that.

Jarvis: "Well, Shady Sands was founded by a great ancestor of our current leader, Aradesh. He could tell you more of the story. We have a well and irrigation, so we do well for ourselves."

  4. Chosen One: "This suit has been in our village since the beginning. It belonged to the Vaultdweller, our founder."
Tandi: "You're serious aren't you? If we're talking about the same person, he saved my life. (snorts) Then vanished. When I start thinking it was only a dream, I go look at the statue out front."
    Chosen One: "Statue?"
Tandi: "That's right. For scaring off the raiders. They kept clear of Shady Sands afterwards we got time to get ourselves set up. We made him a hero... even if we didn't believe a word about him coming from Vault 13."

  5. 5.0 5.1 Announcer: "And that makes it official, folks. The final vote count from the Hub is in: 55% in favor of joining the New California Republic. All five states have now signed on, which means that as of this moment, we are all citizens of the New California Republic. I'm sure that's going to take some getting used to for a lot of people. But here in Shady Sands, people have been waiting for this day for a long time. A crowd has been gathering outside the Hall of Congress all afternoon, and now it looks like quite a party is developing. We're expecting President Aradesh to come out and speak to the crowd any minute now. I think people are hoping the NCR will finally establish peace and prosperity across the whole southwest. It's quite a historic day. Remember it was only three years ago that President Aradesh first proposed the idea of the Republic. Of course there are lots of questions to be answered, and still a lot of opposition in some quarters. But today is a day to celebrate. The beginning of a new era here in the southwest."

  6. Chosen One: "Vaultdweller have many adventures."
Tandi: "I used to envy 'em that. I wanted a life of adventure, but I stayed here and took over as mayor when my dad died. Been running this place and building NCR ever since. Guess it turned out to be a pretty big life after all."

  7. Courier: "What do you think of the NCR?"
Caesar: "Do you want my opinion as a former citizen, or future conqueror? Actually, my opinion's the same either way. As a young man I was taught to venerate President Tandi of Shady Sands. "The Founding Mother of the New California Republic." Did you know her Presidency lasted 52 years? And that her father, Aradesh, was the Republic's first President? Does that sound like democracy to you, or a hereditary dictatorship?"
Courier: "President Tandi was voted into office each time."
Caesar: "Because the council didn't dare oppose her. She was too popular. She had the people's love. So things ran smoothly, more or less. And as soon as she was gone, as soon as there really could be "democracy" - what happened then? Ever since losing its queen, the NCR has been weaker, more diffuse. Democracy has been its weakness, not its strength."
    (Caesar's dialogue)
  8. Ulysses: "Circle Junction. Reno. Vault City. Word of you at Fort Aradesh... Fort Abandon. Even further West than that, Brahmin drives on the Big Circle."

  1. Fallout Official Survival Guide p.89: "Aradesh is a good man who's genuinely concerned about his people and their problems. He may be a bit suspicious of you at first, and can seem a bit paranoid, but that's because he distrusts all outsiders, and it is possible to earn his trust."
  2. Vault-Tec Lab Journal/Vault Dweller's memoirs: "I spent a couple of days stumbling through the desert before I came upon a small settlement. I stopped there for help, and encountered the little town called Shady Sands. I helped them, and they helped me. Understand that survival requires that you work together, even with people you may not trust. I did earn the trust, however, of two prominent citizens of Shady Sands - Tandi, and her father, Aradesh."
