Treasury Department

The Treasury Department was a pre-War department of the United States government.

Background

In 1950, the Secretary of the Treasury John W. Snyder presented a replica of the Liberty Bell to West Virginia.[1] It was put on display across the state between May 15 and July 4, 1950 for the United States Savings Bonds Independence Drive, and subsequently placed in front of the Charleston Capitol Building.[1] One of the workers at the RobCo Auto-Cache 001 wanted hundreds of treasury bonds for display within the facility.[2]

Shortly before the Great War, the United States gold reserves were emptied from Fort Knox and sent to Vault 79.[3] Numerous members of the Secret Service were tasked with defending the stockpile.[4]

Appearances

The Treasury Department is mentioned in Fallout 76, introduced in the Wastelanders update.

Behind the scenes

The seal of the Treasury Department appears on the obverse of United States Treasury Notes. It closely resembles that used on the Series 1890 Treasury Notes.

When it looked like everything was going sideways, the government ordered all the gold reserves moved to Vault 79. We were put here to protect it. From people like you to be honest."
