Proclaim LIBERTY Throughout all the Land unto all the Inhabitants Thereof.— Inscription on the Liberty Bell and its replicas

The Liberty Bell is a landmark in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, mentioned in Fallout 3 and Fallout 76. A replica of the Liberty Bell appears as a world object in Fallout 76.

Background

A French reproduction of the Liberty Bell, with the same dimensions and tone as the original, can be found in Appalachia. It was presented to the people of West Virginia by direction of then Secretary of the Treasury John W. Snyder in 1950.[1] From May 15 to July 4, 1950, as part of the United States Savings Bonds Independence Drive the bell was taken to each part of the state. After the drive finished the reproduction bell was subsequently placed in front of the Charleston Capitol Building.[1]

Surviving the Great War of 2077 and the Christmas Flood of 2082, the replica bell still rests in front of the Capitol Building, and the inscriptions on the placard and bell itself are still legible.

In the 23rd century, American artifact collector Abraham Washington noted that he ran into an individual who claimed he had a fragment of the real Liberty Bell. Washington was incredulous, believing it was still intact and in the ruins of Philadelphia. He began funding an expedition in hopes of bringing it back to be displayed at the Capitol Preservation Society.[2]

Behind the scenes

The Liberty Bell replica seen in-game is nearly identical to that of the real world Liberty Bell, including the transcription on the plaque and along the top of the bell itself.
