A locomotive is a type of railroad vehicle found in the Mojave Wasteland.

Overview

Railroads were used for transporting freight in the pre-War United States, used by locomotives of several different companies such as Barstow Express. By 2281, the New California Republic has refurbished rail lines and uses these to move cargo and people across its territories, including the Mojave Wasteland. Traffic has been halted due to the Deathclaw infestation, but Chomps Lewis in Sloan will tell the Courier that what they dig from their quarry is shipped off by train to the New Vegas Strip and other parts of the Mojave Wasteland.[1] If the infestation is eradicated, Ike, a bartender in Boulder City, will mention the trains will become operational once more.[2]

  1. Courier: "What does the NCR need with the cement?"
Chomps Lewis: "It all gets shipped by rail over towards Boulder City and Hoover Dam. The NCR's probably building fortifications with it all."

  2. Courier: "Where does the concrete come from?"
Ike: "Most of the limestone comes from Quarry Junction out west. The supply had stopped for awhile because of a Deathclaw problem. I heard some badass wastelander killed the Deathclaws, and deliveries of limestone have been coming in again. I don't think they've gotten the trains up and running yet, but most of the concrete plant workers have come back to town now. Good for business."

  3. Fallout: Wasteland Warfare: The Unexpected Shepard Part 1: Protection Order p. 20: "The main routes will certainly be being watched so are off limits. I plan to get him on the train out of Athol but it needs more than just me – that’s where you come in. We MUST get Bert to Athol by noon on March 10th – today being the 6th gives us four days. The next train after that is over two weeks away – there’s no way he’ll evade the gang that long."
