Red Rocket was a pre-War company that operated a nationwide chain of filling stations for automobiles.
Background
Red Rocket locations appear nationwide, offering fusion and coolant refilling services as well as gasoline and diesel.[2][3][4] Other services such as coolant swaps featuring Red Rocket's Premium Hi-Octane coolant, oil checks, and a full windshield wipes were offered.[5][6]
Coolant was available in several varieties, including Coolant A ($103.99 per unit), Coolant C ($113.99 per unit), Premium Hi-Octane, and premium "extra dry" coolant.[7][6] Smaller stations, known as Automobile Service Stations were also present in locations throughout Appalachia.[8] At Red Rocket stations in the Capital Wasteland, a sign is visible on the pumps that say that says "Petroleum spirit. Highly flammable."
Large Red Rocket stations included convenience stores offering Nuka-Cola soft drinks, slushies, tourist pamphlets, and Grey Tortoise cigarettes.[9][10][11] The facilities offered car washing services bundled with refueling, along with Red Rocket Automated Diners that were fully automated and open 24/7.[12][13][14] Protectrons still present at locations after the war repeat advertisements, such as Red Rocket's family-friendly appeal.[15][16]
In an effort to reduce waste, the chain awarded an annual Trashbusters Award to Red Rocket stations that demonstrated the greatest year-to-year waste reduction.[17] In addition, Red Rocket presented the "Across America" board game, showcasing the city of Pittsburgh, presenting background information about the city, as well as encouraging both tourism and job migration to the "brilliant new center of industry."[18]
Publications
During its heyday, Red Rocket was highly concerned with its environmental reputation, as a way of differentiating themselves from the rapacious reputation of most energy companies of the time. This resulted in strong customer-care and waste-reduction policies, which were sometimes observed with lethal enthusiasm.
As the Resource Wars took their toll on the general economy and the energy market in particular, Red Rocket moved swiftly toward robotic staffing. By the time of the War, most of their locations were 100% automated. Some of them continue operating today, despite having no fuel in their tanks or food on their shelves.
After the War
You can always tell a former Red Rocket shop by the distinctive architecture making everything from their filling stations to corporate headquarters look like a 1950s drive-in burger joint. More than 40 known Red Rocket stations are dotted across the wasteland, their iconic rockets still visible at a distance. Although their supplies of fuel are long gone, it is not uncommon to find an operating Nuka-Cola vending machine and a trash bin with some salvageable supplies on or near these former oases.
