Old Granary Burying Ground

The Old Granary Burying Ground is a location in the Boston Common neighborhood of Boston in Fallout 4.

Background

This burial ground was established in 1660.^[1] Many famous Revolutionary War heroes are buried here, including John Hancock, Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, and the victims of the Boston Massacre.^[1] In 2031, after the tragic death of Emilia Butler, the city council voted unanimously to have her remains interred here.^{[Pub 1]} The cemetery is now inhabited by feral ghouls.

Layout

Outside the cemetery is a placard and Freedom Trail marker. The location is the third stop on the Freedom Trail, with the code "2:A." The cemetery consists of a small plot with several rows of headstones, many of which are toppled. An obelisk in the center engraved with the name "Franklin" is the most prominent feature. Just outside is a parked bus containing a suitcase and a cooler. A dead Gunner and a duffle bag are tucked into the back right corner of the plot.

Road to Freedom: The Sole Survivor has heard of a group that aims to take on the Institute and only has the clue, "Follow the Freedom Trail." To find the Railroad, they have to start at Boston Common.

Appearances

The Old Granary burying ground appears only in Fallout 4.

Behind the scenes

The location is based on the real-world Granary Burying Ground in Boston. The Franklin obelisk is similar to its real-world equivalent, which serves as a memorial to several members of Benjamin Franklin's family.
