Bloppo was the dog companion of Maul.
Background
Maul found the dog in a cage, and although at first wanted to eat him, decided against it, stating he was "too weak to kill yet too scrawny to eat."[1] He began to feed the dog to make him stronger, and ended up enjoying his company.[1] He named him after a character in the Grognak & the Ruby Ruins video game.[2] Maul described him as bad at killing, but good at sniffing and licking. He called the dog his "first friend, and best."[3][4] In addition, the dog introduced Maul to the world of Grognak the Barbarian by way of digging up an old book.[5]
Bloppo passed away after he was taken from Maul by other super mutants, his owner unable to save him.[6] When sharing his thoughts on burying his friend, he tells the Vault Dweller that his inability to prevent Bloppo's death was a sign of weakness.[6] He shared that Grognak was strong enough to protect his friends, and that if he becomes as strong, he would be able to do the same.[6]

Maul: "Not all great. Very weak. Very bad at killing, but good at licking and sniffing. But Maul do enough killing for both."

Maul: "But one day, stupid dog dig up book. Grognak book. And Maul see, human can be strong. Even stronger than Super Mutant. And Grognak have dog too, named Silver Shroud."

Maul: "Super Mutants mad, because dog help human. So they take dog. Maul get angry, lose mind, like when Grognak become Grog-Na-Rok. He raid camp in blind rage, and kill them all. But when anger leave, he find friend, in cage, dead. When he bury friend, Maul know he weak. He know, because Grognak never let friend die, and Maul did. Maul think, if he strong enough to kill Grognak, maybe he strong enough to save friend."
