Leaf Mother Laurel

The spreading of His influence is not a curse, it's a great miracle... a benefit meant for the entire Wasteland!

Leaf Mother Laurel is a member of the Treeminders in Oasis in Fallout 3.

Background

Laurel arrived in Oasis about a year after Tree Father Birch had founded the Treeminders and has since become his wife.[1] With her husband she is parenting young Sapling Yew.[2] When Bloomseer Poplar sought to join the Treeminders, it was Laurel who convinced Birch to allow her to stay, allowing the three to develop the "Ceremony of Purification."[3]

Laurel, in her role as Leaf Mother, traditionally has equal say on matters.[4] She does not hesitate to argue with her husband,[5] and in particular disagrees with him on the question if Harold's growth should be stopped or accelerated.[6]

Publications

The wife of Tree Father Birch and fellow leader of the people of Oasis, Leaf Mother Laurel spends much of her day wandering around Oasis, tending the plants and flowers, and speaking with the people of the village with her daughter Sapling Yew usually at her side or playing nearby. She believes it is her responsibility to tend to the spiritual and mental well-being of her fellow villagers.Fallout 3 Official Game Guide/Wasteland Census

References

  1. Lone Wanderer: "How did the Treeminders begin?"
Leaf Mother Laurel: "I'm afraid I can take none of the credit for my husband's creation. I arrived perhaps a year after him, well after he established the Treeminders."
    (Leaf Mother Laurel's dialogue)
  2. Lone Wanderer: "What's your opinion of Tree Father Birch and Leaf Mother Laurel?"
Sapling Yew: "They're the best parents ever!"
    (Sapling Yew's dialogue)
  3. Lone Wanderer: "What did you have to do to become a Treeminder?"
Bloomseer Poplar: "I was the third one to arrive here in Oasis. Tree Father Birch was a bit wary at first, but Leaf Mother Laurel convinced him to let me stay. If she hadn't been around, I doubt Birch would have let me stay here. After a while, they taught me their ways and together we developed the Ceremony of Purification that you undertook."
    (Bloomseer Poplar's dialogue)
  4. Lone Wanderer: "Were you aware that Laurel gave me this Liniment?"
Tree Father Birch: "Of course I am. I know everything that goes on in Oasis. Laurel is free to pursue whatever path she chooses. A long time ago, it was agreed that the Tree Father and the Leaf Mother hold equal say. I don't seek to change those customs. I just hope that when the time comes, you'll make the right choice."
    (Tree Father Birch's dialogue)
  5. Leaf Mother Laurel: "And I'm telling you, you've got it all wrong! Why else would He have called for an Outsider's assistance?"
Tree Father Birch: "The Outsider is here to deliver us from our enemies! To keep this place safely locked away from the Wasteland! Not to exploit us!"
Leaf Mother Laurel: "How can we preach about peace when all you want to do is keep His gift all to ourselves? That's not what He would want!"
Tree Father Birch: "If we allow the spread of this miracle to continue, we're putting Him in jeopardy. I can't allow that... I won't allow it!"
Leaf Mother Laurel: "Once again, my husband, we are at an impasse. I suggest we speak to the Outsider."
Tree Father Birch: "Agreed. Why else would the Outsider have been allowed into the Grove? Perhaps it's a test. Yes... that must be it!"
(Leaf Mother Laurel and Tree Father Birch's dialogue)
  6. Lone Wanderer: "I give up. Just let me know what you want now."
Laurel: "I heard what my husband wanted you to do. What I propose is an alternative. The same person that created the sap also created this Liniment. If you can reach His heart, it will assist in making His influence increase. Instead of centuries, the Wasteland will become green in mere decades! Just imagine how glorious that would be!"
