Crater

The Crater is a set of three areas near the town of Carbon in Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.

Background

The Crater is located at the edge of Carbon, next to the Atomic Diner.^[1]^[2] An elevator is used to travel down into it.^[1] It was created during the Great War, resulting in half of Carbon falling into it, as well as radioactive material.^[3]^[4] Residents of Carbon originally traveled down into the Crater to salvage scrap, but an infestation of Radscorpions made it too dangerous.^[5]

Gameplay

After completing the quest Kill Warehouse Radscorpions, Richard, the mayor of Carbon, informs the Initiate that the Brotherhood of Steel Paladins they are looking for traveled into the Crater,^[1] with Richard suggesting they might have "found a vault down there."^[6]

Once the Crater Pit is reached, the player is greeted by Richard, who informs them that the Raiders instructed him to kill the player or else they would burn down Carbon.^[7] He also states that the Paladins had entered town, but left after speaking to the leader of the Raiders, the Raider Matron.^[8] The player is tasked with defeating Richard in a boss battle afterwards.
