The Pitt Steelyard is a location in The Pitt in Fallout 3.
Background
Before the Great War, the Steelyard was a part of a metal foundry in downtown Pittsburgh. After the war, the location is part of the Pitt, with scattered Steel Ingots located within. The area is infested with Trogs and Wildmen. Rather than take the risk, the Pitt Raiders send Slaves into the Steelyard in search of ingots.
Layout
Steelyard
The Steelyard opens to a ramp leading to a trainyard. A dead Pitt Slave is located directly in front of the entrance, the gun and ammo of which can be picked up. A stairway beyond the slave's remains leads up to a rusted landscape of pipes, scrap heaps, and warehouses. Planks and scrap metal form bridges to the warehouses and across pipes. In the east is an area containing radioactive toxic waste barrels.
In the far southwest, a stairway leads up to the roof of a building where wildmen have set up camp. This camp is also adjacent to Wernher's Hideout. A catwalk east of the camp leads north over a warehouse and nearby stairs spiral around a radioactive smokestack. There is a platform with four Protectrons in their pods. Nearby there's a terminal that can be used to activate them with a 75 Science skill. The robots are not hostile to the player character and will kill nearby Trogs and Wildmen.
Supply Plant
The Supply Plant is an auxiliary of the steelyard which contains extra supplies for the steelworkers. It is filled with Trogs and has 18 Steel Ingots inside.
Abandoned Area
A part of the factory that connects the Mill and the Steelyard. The area has been deserted due to the Trog infestation but contains three Steel Ingots.
Loot

Notes
- Several pipes emit jets of flame into the air but this fire will not damage the player character.
- When the Lone Wanderer enters the Steelyard for the first time they will find John-John attempting to talk to his brother Billy who has turned into a Trog. Billy reacts violently and attacks him. The Lone Wanderer can kill Billy before it kills John-John. Speaking with John-John will only result in the man lamenting his brother's death.
Appearances
The Pitt Steelyard appears only in the Fallout 3 add-on The Pitt.
Bugs
- note explaining his fate to give to Milly for quest completion and reward. If his body does not appear the first time, re-loading the save at the Steelyard entrance should make him spawn in a reachable location. If one does not find Wild Bill the first time they enter the Steelyard, he may be lost forever. This makes it impossible to get his unique weapon, Wild Bill's Sidearm, and his
- This can be fixed by clearing the console's cache.
- This might also be fixed by uninstalling the Point Lookout add-on for the duration of visiting the Pitt.
It is advised to save a lot after reaching the corpse of Wild Bill. A zone (southeast) seems to be messy (no floor) behind the big tower, before reaching the stairs. If one decided to explore the opening between the tower and the wall, there one could see some spherical silos and the floor is "visible" but missing just after. There is a corpse, a Trog and some Ingots on the corner of the floor missing area (the silos are "solid" contrary to the floor).
- After visiting the Steelyard more than once to collect Ingots, it may become impossible to enter the Steelyard either via the Mill or via fast travel. The loading screen will continue indefinitely and the game will have to be restarted. Currently, there is no way to stop this bug, rendering the Steelyard inaccessible and anything left to explore or loot there unobtainable.
