Pete Hines worked as senior vice president of global marketing & communications and head of publishing at Bethesda Softworks. He was in charge of public relations and marketing of games published by Bethesda, including Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4 and Fallout 76.
Background
Hines joined Bethesda Softworks' marketing department in 1999. He was responsible for writing game manuals as well as being in charge of all information that was released to the public, including press releases, web and blog updates, and announcement posts on the forums. He was frequently giving interviews to the press and demonstrations of in-development games to industry organizations and the wider public at conventions.
On October 16, 2023, Bethesda announced Hines' decision to retire on the company's Twitter, praising him for his "authenticity, integrity and passion" as well as for his "integral contributions" that helped to shape Bethesda into the company that it is today.[Dev 1] At the same time, Hines announced his retirement on his personal Twitter account, expressing his excitement over the new chapter in his life, and his gratitude for all the wonderful people he meet during his 24-year tenure with Bethesda.[Dev 2]
Bethesda replied to Hines' Tweet by posting a humorous doctor's note, in which they prescribed him "lots of gaming" as well as other recreational activities, such as caring for foster puppies or collecting sports cards.[Dev 3]
