For the season, see Rip Daring and the Cryptid Hunt. |
Mutation Invasion is the 15th major update for Fallout 76, following Nuka-World on Tour. It was released on February 28, 2023, alongside Season 12 Rip Daring and the Cryptid Hunt.
Features
Mutation Invasion Events
Creatures and enemies with similar mutations to those from Daily Ops invaded public events. Mutated events took place every full hour until March 21, 2023. They became week-long seasonal events afterwards, similar to The Mothman Equinox and Invaders from Beyond.
Daily Ops
The update added the Charleston Capitol Building, Garrahan Mining Headquarters and Morgantown High School to the Daily Ops map rotation, and aliens as possible enemies.
A new mutation for enemies, Reflective Skin, was also introduced. Enemies glow white for 5 seconds at a time, and if attacked, will reflect 25% of received damage back on the player. Explosive attacks from weapons such as an auto grenade launcher ignore the reflective skin mutation. Weapons with the Vampire legendary mod will not proc and heal players while the enemies are glowing white.
Enemies under the influence of the Resilient mutation can now be killed by the Pain Train perk and thrown weapons.
Season 12
An all-new season, Rip Daring and the Cryptid Hunt, was released alongside the update. It includes various skins and C.A.M.P. objects.
Re-Rolls and Epic Challenges
The update introduced the re-roll feature. It can be accessed from the challenge menu and allows to turn a daily or weekly challenge into a new one, with a 25% chance of the new one becoming an epic challenge. Completing epic daily challenges award 400 S.C.O.R.E., epic weekly challenges award 1,500 S.C.O.R.E.
Players are given one free re-roll a day, with Fallout 1st subscribers receiving a second free re-roll. Additional re-rolls are possible by using Re-Rollers, which can be obtained as reward from Season 12, or bought from the Atomic Shop.

Behind the scenes
Bethesda had originally planned to add new crafting components named "Infusion Reagents" as a reward for completing mutated events, which would have used to craft strong temporary buffs. After receiving feedback from the PTS, Infusions were removed and are subject to re-evaluation in the future.[Ext 1]
