Gruthar is the leader of the intelligent deathclaws of Vault 13 in Fallout 2.
Background
By far the most impressive and strongest among his pack,[1] Gruthar is the alpha male and leader. He respects human life and tries to minimize the impact he and his pack make on others.[2] He takes responsibility for his pack's part in the abduction of the Vault inhabitants.[2] His son Goris admires him.

Quests
- Fix the Vault 13 computer: He will ask for the Chosen One's assistance (if their Intelligence is not low) with the mainframe running the Vault, sabotaged by Matt.
- Retrieve the GECK for Arroyo: In return for helping with the Vault computer, he will give the Chosen One the G.E.C.K. he was looking for.
Effects of player's actions
The G.E.C.K. transaction triggers the massacre of Vault 13 inhabitants two weeks after the exchange takes place. This can be potentially avoided if the Chosen One kills Dr. Schreber and fixes the Vault computer. This is bugged, however, thus leaving his true fate unknown.
Other interactions
Being the leader of the Vault 13 deathclaws, he is the first one to speak to the Chosen One, asking them to not disturb the peace of the Vault. Gruthar may or may not allow the Chosen One to enter the vault. To be allowed to enter, they must meet one of the following requirements:
- Have good Karma, in order to convince Gruthar that one wishes to help the pack.
- Have low Intelligence.
- Not have the Childkiller perk.
Appearances
Gruthar appears in Fallout 2 and is mentioned in the Fallout Bible.

Goris: "::sigh::) They were captured by The Enclave. Gruthar and the pack were forced to aid in their capture. They had no choice since they were slaves at the time. The fate of the humans has weighed heavily on Gruthar's mind. He's never really forgiven himself for his complicity in the affair. The humans were taken alive, but who knows what has happened to them since?"
