Reputation is a system that measures approval with the two major Wastelanders factions, Settlers and Raiders in Fallout 76.

Gameplay

At its worst, the faction will be hostile, attacking on sight if encountered. At its best, the faction will be friendly and fully trusting, usually amicable when interacted with (though with some exceptions in NPC dialog). Upon first encountering the faction, they will be hesitant to include a newcomer in their affairs. The more that is done to help a faction, be it by offering information, taking down their enemies, and completing quests, the more trust will be gained, and reputation with that faction will increase.

Whenever reputation is gained, there will be a notification that shows how much reputation was earned. The amount of reputation earned also depends on what was done to earn it. Completing a story quest, for example, will net a large amount of reputation, while finishing a faction daily quest or making certain choices during conversations offer additional ways to gain reputation, though at a smaller scale.

The ability to see current standing with both factions is available by opening the social menu. An icon for each faction indicating the current reputation rank will appear at the top of the social menu near the account name. This can be clicked to open a reputation pop-up that shows rank and progress towards the next rank.

As reputation ranks with the Raiders and Settlers increase, people at the Crater and Foundation will treat one with more warmth during interactions, and the faction's vendors will sell a wider range of goods.

Reputation tiers

There are seven reputation ranks. From least approval to most, the cumulative amount of reputation points is as follows. Main quest and random encounters not included.

Quests

In order to gain reputation with each faction, the player may perform a variety of tasks. While completing the main Wastelanders questlines may only be accomplished once per character, certain daily quests will refresh each day at 7:00 PM EST. In addition, random encounters involving each faction may offer opportunity to gain extra reputation.

Settlers

Raiders

Reputation with the Raiders at the Crater cannot be gained prior to completing Strange Bedfellows, at which point they are no longer hostile.

Rewards

At certain reputation ranks, new plans will become available for purchase with Gold Bullion from either Samuel (Settlers) or Mortimer (Raiders). Molly at the Crater will also sell various food recipes for caps. Each faction sells a separate set of plans.

Notes

The player character starts the game with a hostile reputation with the Raiders. This can be bumped up to a cautious reputation after meeting with Meg and using the right SPECIAL skill conversation choices with her in the "Strange Bedfellows" quest. After that, it will be safe to approach The Crater and Crater Watchstation and raiders found around Appalachia without them turning hostile at first contact with the player character since they are now on somewhat amicable terms with their leader Meg.
