Uh, I really don't know very much. Honest. Bless the Master! Bye!

Calder is an adolescent member[1] of the Unity, a true Child of the Cathedral, around 2161. He resides in front of the Cathedral before its destruction.

Spending his days in front of the majestic Cathedral, Calder is an ardent follower of the Unity, as much as a child can be. He doesn't quite comprehend the scope of the doctrine, fully believing that it will bring peace and love to the wasteland. He does his part by offering meditation flowers to people passing through.[2] As a student of Lasher, he hopes that the Unity will achieve its goals and the teacher will become a bit nicer. He claims the Master is the only one who loves him, and through dialogue, the Vault Dweller can speculate upon how severely Calder has been brainwashed into the whole "Unity" mindset.

Behind the scenes

  • Judging by the script and the text, Calder was supposed to survive the Cathedral destruction and appear on the destroyed map, swearing vengance against the Vault Dweller when talked to. However, he was cut before release. What remains of post-explosion interactivity is a barely implemented dialogue script with only one dialog node and broken replies. It's so broken, that it's possible to trigger it by having the Childkiller reputation active on the character.

  2. Calder: "{186}{}{Uh, hello.}"
The Vault Dweller: "{187}{}{Hello kid. Can you tell me what this place is about?}"
Calder: "{192}{}{This is the Cathedral of the Children of the Cathedral. I don't know why they say Cathedral twice. We worship the Master, and we yell a lot about Peace and Unity. It sounds kind of dumb, but the Master's real smart, so I guess it must be okay.}"
The Vault Dweller: " {193}{}{Tell me more about the Master.}"
Calder: "{147}{}{I can't tell you that! The Nightkin would eat me!}"
