Brent Olson was the security director of Poseidon Energy Plant WV-06 in Appalachia.
Background
When Poseidon Energy began replacing their employees with automated robots, this caused the laid-off employees to stage a massive protest in front of the plant.[1][2] Olson deemed the protest a "national security issue" and called in the National Guard against the wishes of the plant's manager, Renee Hargraves who was sympathetic to the employees.[3] When Hargraves confronted Olson and telling him that he is fired, Olson declared himself in charge of the plant upon invoking a state of emergency, and forcefully detaining Hargraves in her office.[4]
Poseidon Energy gave Olson a shipment of HalluciGen gas canisters to be used on the protesters to make them turn on each other without having the Guard firing a shot.[5] However, the gas only caused the crazed protesters to attack the Guard, exposing them to the gas in the process, and storm the plant.[5] Shocked and horrified at what he saw, Olson and the other Poseidon Energy personnel attempted to seal themselves inside, but realized they had forgotten the facility's old expansion had no security doors.[5] Olson found himself cornered in the basement, where he made his last recording.
