Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States, serving from 1861 to 1865.[1]
Background
The leader of the United States before, during, and after the American Civil War, first calling for citizens to join in the effort by way of a draft.[2][3] At the end of the conflict, Lincoln announced victory and decreed the abolishment of slavery by way of historical speeches including the Gettysburg Address and the Emancipation Proclamation.[4][5]
Referred to as the Great Emancipator, the period of time in which Lincoln served as president was exhibited as part of the Museum of History before the Great War.[1][6] The former president's face can also be seen on pennies found after the war, as well as on placards in Arlington House and the Lincoln Memorial.[7] His emancipation of the slaves is glorified by members of the Temple of the Union.[8] President Lincoln was struck down by assassin John Wilkes Booth, and wanted posters were distributed on April 20, 1865, offering $100,000 reward for his capture.[9] The loss of Lincoln to an assassin is lamented by those who honor him after the war.[10]
The ruins of the museum contain a number of items that can be sold to either the escaped slave Hannibal Hamlin, the slaver Leroy Walker, or the historian Abraham Washington in Rivet City. The slavers seek to destroy as much of his legacy and his personal effects as possible and occupy his namesake memorial.[11][12]
